MEMBERS OF Cupar Round Table are making a last-gasp push to save the group from disbandment.
The Courier told on Wednesday how the “social club with a conscience” which has raised thousands of pounds for charity in Cupar over 52 years took the decision last Thursday to disband due to membership falling below a sustainable level.
Now, chairman-in- waiting Robert Close has said the Table want to give it one last go, and urged anyone aged 18 to 45 with an interest to get in touch.
Mr Close said: “The reason we’ve got to this position is due to a lack of fresh blood.
“We have an age limit of 45 years of age and, while we do have a tradition of members staying on in an honorary capacity, a number of long-serving members who have gone way over and above the call of duty over the last decade have over the past year decided to finally call it a day and pursue other interests.
“In that respect, I would like to thank them for their efforts and wish them well.
“I find it difficult to believe that there aren’t at least a dozen or so young men in north east Fife who would find the Round Table experience thoroughly rewarding.”
Mr Close added that Round Table “isn’t some secret society with blazers and funny handshakes”.
He added: “We’re just a bunch of regular guys who like to get together for a beer and a blether; not unlike a night out with the lads only rather than waking up the following morning with only a hangover to show for the night before, we wake up having raised thousands of pounds for the community.”
