Man threatened to cut off his testicles in Ninewells Hospital
ByThe Courier Reporter
A man who ran through a hospital threatening to cut off his own testicles and then stole a gas and air canister from an ambulance is facing jail.
Andrew Bryson snapped after being told he was being released from Ninewells Hospital, informing nurses he had a knife before charging into the building’s main atrium where he told passersby he was going to mutilate himself.
Bryson was arrested, appeared in court and was released on bail, but within hours he was sneaking into an ambulance to steal ‘laughing gas’ as paramedics treated a neighbour.
Police found him in his flat holding a large kitchen knife with which he tried to stab and ignite the canister.
The officers had to use CS incapacitant spray on Bryson and eventually struck him with a baton after he brandished the knife at them.
Bryson, 37, a prisoner at Perth, pleaded guilty to charges of theft and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on November 17 last year in Barnes Avenue, Dundee.
He also admitted behaving in a threatening and abusive manner at Ninewells Hospital on November 15.
Sentence was deferred and Bryson was remanded in custody.
