Norway 0 Scotland 1: Scots dig out victory from heavy pitch

Scott Brown (left) fires home the only goal of the game.

Match-winner Scott Brown was happy to see Scotland scrape a victory win in Norway after admitting they failed to hit top form.

The skipper grabbed the only goal of the game on the hour-mark to claim victory in the friendly in Molde.

He said: “The lads fought and battled all the way. We didn’t play at our best – we know that – but we got the result and that’s what we came for.”

The win allowed the momentum from recent matches to continue, even if the performance was not quite as impressive.

Asked why the Scots were below par, Brown said: “I think the pitch played a big part. It was soft and soggy and we couldn’t pass the ball as well.

“Fair play, they tried to pass the ball about as well and we gave as good as we got.

“We got a wee bit of luck with the deflection.”

Brown’s deflected strike saw him claim his third international goal.

He said: “It was one of those ones – I just hit it and hoped.

“It was a deflection but it went into the back of the net and that’s all that matters.”

The Celtic midfielder might consider himself lucky to even have been on the pitch to score his goal after he kicked out at Norway defender Vegard Forren midway through the first period.
