A “snarling and growling” man spat blood at three police officers and chewed through a leg restraint during a legal-high-fuelled attack in Montrose, a court heard.
Steven Dunn left PC Jack Swindells with a bleeding open bite wound on his leg after the constable and two colleagues tried to restrain him in the town’s High Street in July.
A court heard that Dunn, who said he was being “harrassed on a daily basis” by officers, claimed to be a member of the IRA before wetting himself in the back of a police van.
The 39-year-old, who has nine previous convictions for assaulting and obstructing officers, was jailed for 18 months at Dundee Sheriff Court.
Dunn, a prisoner at Perth, admitted three charges of police assault and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner on July 26.
He also admitted biting another man rendering him liable to the risk of infection at Market Street, Montrose on the same date.
Sheriff Lorna Drummond told Dunn: “You have a lengthy record, including obstructing and assaulting police officers in England.
“I take a particularly serious view of the charge against PC Swindells, who you injured and caused stress and anxiety to waiting for results.”
