Carnoustie closures and restrictions during Commonwealth Games

Commonwealth Games organisers have announced a number of road closures and restrictions in Carnoustie.

As builders scramble to finish works at Barry Buddon Shooting Centre, which is set to host all shooting events for the games, it has been announced road changes will be in place from July 12.

Church Street, Station Road and Links Parade will be the first parts of town where restrictions are implemented, with no waiting or loading allowed from July 12-30.

That restriction will apply only to the north side of Church Street, between Station Road and Carlogie Road.

A no-stopping rule will be implemented on the south side of the street, with the exception of taxis at 19 Church Street.

The biggest restrictions will be enforced from July 22, when waiting and loading bans will be in place along the A930 and MacDonald Smith Drive until July 30.

Station Road at Barry Links will also be closed to all traffic, apart from games family access.

Restrictions from Barry Road, at the Lochend Road junction, to the Ferrier Street junction on Dundee Street, will prevent waiting or loading from July 24-30.

The same restrictions will be in place on Kinloch Street, except for taxis. Traffic exiting Kinloch Park will not be able to turn right during the games.

Traffic from Links Parade or Taymouth Street will not be able to turn to Ferrier Street.

Restrictions will also prevent traffic turning on to Links Avenue from Dundee Street, Kinloch Street, South Kinloch Street or Taymouth Street.

Councillor Bill Bowles, said: “As usual, this is something that’s been approved without asking anyone who actually lives in Carnoustie what they think but communication is improving in the run-up to the games.

“Whenever we get information on new developments, we meet with locals in order to ensure everyone is involved.”

Councillor Jeanette Gaul said residents and business owners could expect an invitation to an open planning meeting.
