Residents and business owners at Dundee’s City Quay have hit out the council over a three-month delay in finishing waterfront roadworks.
A section of South Victoria Dock Road closed on January 20 for drainage works that were expected to be completed within four months.
But more than 10 weeks after they were due to finish, the road remains closed at the junction with the A991.
The council has now revealed that it could be “a few weeks” before the road is reopened to the public.
During the closure, residents and visitors to the hundreds of flats in South Victoria Dock Road have had to access the properties via East Dock Street and West Victoria Dock Road.
The closure has also caused problems for businesses at City Quay, with lengthy queues for motorists leaving the car park at peak times.
Mick Shevlin, 29, who lives on South Victoria Dock Road, said: “It’s quite inconvenient when you are just nipping to Tesco because you used to be able to drive straight out instead of going round the long way.
“I know the work is probably needed but I don’t think it should have taken this long to finish.”
Karim Baxter, 29, who also lives at City Quay, said: “It’s pretty frustrating. You can see where you want to go but you have to go all the way round, which takes a lot longer.”
One business owner said: “It’s been a nightmare at times.
“The car park is busy at the best of times, but since January everyone has had to turn right when leaving, which has caused a build-up of traffic.
“There are a lot of people who are abusing the car park and parking there without a permit, which makes it busier and doesn’t help.
“That’s not ideal for staff who are held up getting home from work.”
A spokesman for Dundee City Council said: “The work that the road was initially closed for was completed but since then further work to install pipes and reinstate the carriageway has also taken place.
“For safety reasons, site vehicles have been using the road while it is closed but it will reopen to the public in the next few weeks.”
