Scott Robertson candidly confesses that he was “devastated” when he had to leave Hibs at the end of last season.
The 30-year-old loved his time at Easter Road but had to seek out pastures new when contract talks stalled with the midfielder heading to Romania to play for Botosani.
That move proved to be an ill-fated one and the former Scotland and Dundee United player returned home and was snapped up by Raith boss Ray McKinnon.
Now, the player is looking to help the Kirkcaldy club put one over on Alan Stubbs’ Hibs side at Stark’s Park this afternoon, knowing that a win would haul Rovers back into second place in the Championship table once again.
Robertson admitted: “I said at the time I was devastated the way it ended at Hibs.
“I just assumed I would be there beyond last season.
“The way things worked out, there was no negotiating with the club it was just a take it, or leave it offer.
“The main thing for me was the length of the contract. I was wanting more than one year but they weren’t willing to offer that.
“My position was that I wanted to stay there and the club were great offering me a contract but we couldn’t agree on it and that was the reason I decided to look elsewhere.
“I still have a lot of friends there and I think I played some of the best football of my career under Alan Stubbs last season.
“So I don’t think I have a point to prove. It’s not like I was left out in the cold.
“If it had been that sort of scenario, then maybe, but not at all.
“I still speak to a lot of the boys there and I am looking forward to seeing them again on Saturday but hopefully we will win three points.
“With their result the other night beating Falkirk, they have overtaken us so if we can win then we will go back into second place which at this stage of the season would be phenomenal.
“From a Hibs perspective last season, Raith were a tricky fixture. We only won one of the four games.
“I like to think we can cause them problems again starting on Saturday.”
Robertson admitted that Raith was the right fit for him after his Romanian disappointment and the presence of the Dundee contingent he travels with to training every day has helped him settle in.
He added: “I was just looking to get back playing football.
“The fact that it is close to home, I know a lot of the players here already and it is a league I have played in, it is almost ideal for me.
“I’ve actually ruined the car school from Dundee a little bit.
“There was just the one car but I have come along now and made it six, so we have had to split it into two cars.
“So now we have rival car schools with me in with Kyle Benedictus and Ryan McCord while Jon Daly, Craig Wighton and Lewis Toshney are in the other.”
