A Fife man breached his mother’s trust by using her bank card to steal £1,400 from her account.
Scott Smith was supposed to check to see if money had gone into the account but instead made repeated withdrawals over a four-day period, Dunfermline Sheriff Court heard yesterday.
When his mother tried to find out what had happened, her son was identified from CCTV images of him taking money from the cash machines.
Smith, 21, of Denfield Drive, Cardenden, admitted that between September 11 and 14 last year at Tesco Express and the Londis Foodstore, both Cardenden, by means of a bank card and PIN dishonestly acquired, he stole £1,400 from ATMs.
Defence solicitor Jacqueline Meisel said her client was unemployed and lived with his mother, who had some health problems. As a result, she would give him the card to check her account.
She said: “He accepts it is a massive breach of trust and he’s lucky she still wants to know him.”
Sheriff Craig McSherry called for reports and Smith will be sentenced on May 6.
