Scheme graduate Syann Gilroy may soon have an album out.

One of the biggest success stories of 2013 in Dundee will be showcased at a sell-out concert tonight involving some of Dundee’s best young musical talent.

The gig, in Clark’s on Lindsay Street, features nine young acts from the Gardyne Studios Youth Music Initiative.

In conjunction with The Courier and Creative Scotland, the scheme saw almost 30 musicians and a dozen sound engineers aged between 14 and 21 mentored by Stevie Anderson and Dave Webster from AMWWF, Chris Marra (ex-Danny Wilson,) and Paul (Lefty) Wright.

The June-to-September course culminated in a final show at Gardyne Theatre in front of hundreds of people.

A CD album involving each act from the course was also made and copies have been on sale since the gala show in November.

One of the acts, Stobie Boy, is about to release a single and an album deal with the studio’s own label is in the pipeline for another young star, Syann Gilroy.

Dundee College deputy principal and studio creative director Grant Ritchie said: “We want to provide ongoing support over a longer period for the youngsters … and we have been talking to Creative Scotland about that. I’m really looking forward to the gig in Clark’s tonight.”
