The MP who brought then Scottish Secretary Michael Forsyth to his knees in 1997 has signalled her intention to stand down at the 2015 general election.
It was a momentous victory for Labour when Anne McGuire won the Stirling seat for Labour from the Tory heavyweight.
She has since gone on to defend the constituency successfully in 2001, 2005 and 2010 and has fulfilled a series of senior roles at a national level.
As a new MP, she worked closely with Donald Dewar to secure devolution for Scotland and she has since acted as Scottish whip and as minister for disabled people.
She said: “I have been pleased to represent the people of Stirling and its communities since the general election in May 1997.
“I feel that I have played my part in working for the people of Stirling and that the time is right for another to take on that role.
“I will, however, continue to be a full-time and active MP until the next election, when I hope to hand over to another Labour MP.”
Labour party leader Ed Miliband said: “Anne is a dedicated representative of the people of Stirling, a passionate campaigner and, on a personal note, a good friend and Parliament will be poorer without her.”
