Police have been working with a Dundee nightclub to prevent young people becoming victims of violence and underage drinking.
Liquid nightclub staff were working with officers from Police Scotland’s Licensing Unit to raise awareness on how to intervene.
“Officers assisted staff verifying proof of age identification and young persons without appropriate identification were refused entry,” said Sergeant Iain Bethway from Tayside’s divisional co-ordination unit and licensing unit.
He continued: “The Licensing (Scotland) Act 2005 has introduced a mandatory condition that means there must be an age verification policy in relation to the sale of alcohol on the premises.
“The law has set a minimum of age of 25 years for the policy, so where it appears to the person selling the alcohol that the customer may be under the age of 25 years they are required to ask for identification.
“If you look under 25 you will be asked to prove that you are aged 18 or over when you buy alcohol.
“If you are under 18 you are committing an offence if you attempt to buy alcohol.”
Officers will also be routinely be carrying out checks at licensed premises to ensure alcohol is not served to minors and to ensure they are run appropriately.
