A seven-year-old girl got the fright of her life after falling down a well in the Mearns.
The youngster dropped 12 feet down the shaft after its cover cracked and gave way when she was peering into the well at Crookieden Farm near Laurencekirk.
The girl was left with only cuts and bruises, despite the large fall, and was back in the safety of her family last night.
Two fire crews from Laurencekirk and Inverbervie, a specialist unit from Aberdeen and police officers raced to the scene at around 6.45pm but the girl’s grandfather had already rescued the child.
The family at the farm declined to comment, but confirmed that she was fine.
A police spokesman said: “A seven-year-old girl got stuck down a well at around 6.42pm near Laurencekirk. Scottish Fire and Rescue attended with two crews and a specialist unit but the girl had already been rescued.
“She suffered cuts and bruises after the cover of the well cracked and she fell down the 12-foot drop.
