Jackie McNamara has admitted he has regrets about his time as Dundee United manager. But he insisted that his record is one to be proud of, and is only eclipsed by the legendary Jim McLean. In a BBC interview the now York City boss said: “My record at United speaks for itself in terms of win ratios and getting to finals. “I think it is second only to Jim McLean in the club’s history. “The last six months at the club weren’t nice. “But everyone has their time in the firing line and I’m a stronger person because of it.” McNamara spent over two years with United, guiding the side to finals of both the Scottish Cup and League Cup. But he pointed out that continuing that success was compromised by the sale of his top players. Ryan Gauld, Andrew Robertson, Gary Mackay-Steven and Stuart Armstrong were all moved on, before Nadir Ciftci was bought by Celtic last summer. McNamara added: “In Scottish football there is no-one else who lost players like we lost or moved on. “I regret certain things but a lot of other things were out of my control. “The club was in a bad position at the time and I inherited other people’s problems.”
