Film fans can catch an early glimpse of St Monans Kirk’s cinematic debut after The Railway Man was premiered at the Toronto Film Festival.
The movie, an adaptation of Eric Lomax’s auto-biographical novel, stars Colin Firth as Lomax and Nicole Kidman as his wife Patti.
Their characters’ wedding scene was filmed at St Monans Kirk in May last year while the film also used a number of other locations in Scotland.
Although the film will not be released in the UK until January, its official trailer has been released, with St Monans Kirk taking a starring role..embed-container { position: relative; padding-bottom: 56.25%; padding-top: 30px; height: 0; overflow: hidden; max-width: 100%; height: auto; } .embed-container iframe, .embed-container object, .embed-container embed { position: absolute; top: 0; left: 0; width: 100%; height: 100%; }
The film tells the story of Lomax’s struggle to come to terms with his experiences as a prisoner-of-war in Burma.
So far the movie, directed by Australian Jonathan Teplitzky, has received mixed reviews.
While the acting receives high praise, many critics complain about the film’s structure and pace.
The Railway Man is the second film to feature scenes shot in Courier Country to receive its premiere recently. Under the Skin, starring Scarlett Johansson, was partly shot in Angus and was screened for the first time at the Venice Film Festival.
