Lumphinnans’ £1 million sports hub is now open for business.
The state-of-the-art site, which will be run by Fife Sports and Leisure Trust for Fife Council, boasts a new full-size 3G synthetic turf pitch with floodlighting and a community clubhouse.
The hub, a new home for the Fife Football Performance Academy, was developed thanks to a planning agreement with supermarket giant Tesco.
A condition of consent for a planned supermarket in Cowdenbeath was that a new sports hub be completed before work started on the store to ensure no loss of local sports features.
When Tesco shelved its supermarket plan work on the new sports hub was already nearing completion.
Councillor Mark Hood said: “This is already shaping up to be a popular addition to our sports facilities in the Cowdenbeath area.”
The academy, which has moved from its base in Dalgety Bay, is a year old and has 240 children taking part every week.
The hub is not just for clubs and is also available to the community for pitch hire.
