Dunfermline have struck new deals with nearly a team’s worth of talent as they prepare for life after administration.
With insolvency experts BDO restricting manager Jim Jefferies to signing players on monthly contracts since the club was plunged into administration in March, the Pars were left with a flurry of business to complete before the weekend’s transfer window.
More monthly agreements were not possible because players would then have come out of contract beyond the signing deadline, meaning Jefferies and new club owners Pars United had to tie up players on longer deals before August 31.
Some, such as Callum Morris, Josh Falkingham, Ryan Wallace and Andy Geggan, were already contracted for the rest of the season, but most of those thrust into the first-team when eight players were sacked last term had to pen new agreements.
Jefferies said: “We were restricted to signing a lot of the boys from month to month but we could only do that until August 31 otherwise they would have come out of contract outside the window and would not have been able to play.
“We needed to get it resolved, so we spent the last few days of last week getting boys to sign contracts for the rest of the season. But they were all desperate to stay, so we had no problems.
“There will be some part-time players in our league getting more than our boys but this season it’s about doing well, helping the club and then we will look at things next summer and see if it can be improved.
“There were nine players we had to sort out and the 10th, Michal Hrivnak, we decided to let move on so that he was a free agent outside the window.”
