Crews were called to the Darroch Learg Hotel in Ballater, Aberdeenshire, at around 3.50pm. They faced a well-developed fire in the roof of the three-floor building, the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said. Six jets are being used to fight the blaze on Braemar Road. The fire service said later the blaze had been contained to the roof and upperfloor of the 19th century building. Crews have managed to save two thirds of the hotel but will remain at the scene through the night, the service said.
