Dale Hilson hit the goal that earned Forfar a draw against Stenhousemuir at Ochilview.
The 20-year-old, on loan from Dundee United, was delighted to thwart his flatmate Ross Smith who lined up in the Warriors’ ranks.
“I think we did enough to win and that’s disappointing, but I suppose the pair of us would make the same claim,” he said.
Both would, indeed, have that right. The Loons started by taking this match to their hosts only to be shocked in the 10th minute when John Gemmell volleyed a spectacular shot from 16 yards off Darren Smith’s chip into the middle to give Darren Hill no chance.
Smith went on to hit the post when the same pair combined shortly after, and it was a much more even affair when Hilson, sent clear by a superb Gavin Swankie pass, tied the match with a shot that went in off the post.
The Station Park outfit had the bulk of second-half possession, but really did not test Chris Smith in the home goal too strenuously, and the home team could claim that efforts from the deadly duo of Smith and Gemmell that came back off the goal frame gave them the edge.
A point apiece was probably right in a terrifically entertaining match.
The Forfar boss said: “It’s not often you will hear Dick Campbell say that he is happy with a point, but I can say that today.
“It was an open game that both teams went about the right way and while I’m disappointed not to have won, I don’t anticipate any problems with this team and we will go back up the road to prepare for next week.”
Campbell’s counterpart Corrigan felt pretty much the same. “We were much better than we were last week against Stranraer and had enough opportunities to win.
“On another day the chances would have gone in, but the performance sets us up for the two cup ties coming up against Rangers on Tuesday and Annan next Saturday, and we are in the right mood to do ourselves justice in these games.”
