Forty outpatients had their scans cancelled at Ninewells Hospital in Dundee because of the volume of priority inpatient cases.
NHS Tayside insisted the issue was unconnected with the difficulties in Greater Glasgow, where a computer problem led to the cancellation of more than 550 appointments this week.
The cancelled appointments at Ninewells were on Friday last week and a spokeswoman for the health authority said: “Clinical radiology had to cancel at short notice CT outpatient lists due to urgent inpatient activity which took priority. This resulted in 40 cancellations.
“Apology letters have been issued. All patients have now been either phoned or sent a letter offering them another appointment slot. We would like to reiterate our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this has caused.”
The spokeswoman added that NHS Tayside does not use the same system and is not experiencing the same issues as NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Scotland’s largest health board has made an “unreserved apology” over the IT problem that has severely affected services over the last few days.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde said it had only restored “a basic level of IT service to enable some of the clinical services affected to resume normally”.
The problem involved up to 10 hospitals and 564 patients had their treatment or appointments postponed. The computer failure restricted staff access to clinical and administrative systems.
IT specialists and clinical leads have been working around the clock to resolve the problem.
