A Fife man who attacked a steward at a football match between Rangers and Inverness Caledonian Thistle has been sentenced at Glasgow Sheriff Court.
Kelty man William Reekie Greenhill, 42, was given a Community Payback Order, with a condition to carry out 200 hours of unpaid work and had a two year Football Banning Order imposed after pleading guilty.
The assault occurred at the start of the match at Ibrox Stadium on October 31, 2012. Greenhill was observed to be unsteady on his feet and when approached was found to be intoxicated.
When the steward asked him to leave the stadium, he began to shout and swear at the steward and punched him on the face.
Stephen Ferguson, Football Liaison Prosecutor for the West of Scotland, said:“Disorderly conduct and violence at football matches will not be tolerated.
“Prosecutors will continue to work with the police to take whatever measures are necessary to protect genuine fans and ground staff from criminal behaviour while attending or working at football matches.”
