A convicted stalker who took a knife to his victim’s home in Arbroath told police he had it because he wanted to murder her new partner.
Helen Haldane called police on former husband Francis Haldane after she became concerned he was carrying a blade.
The offence took place on June 15 at addresses in Queen Street and Glenesk Place in Arbroath and at Arbroath Police Office.
Haldane has previously been convicted of stalking and threatening Mrs Haldane, 42, and that call prompted officers to race to his home. They found him with a kitchen knife in his jacket pocket.
When they took him in for interview he told them: “I was going to jump on the train to Glasgow and stab the guy Helen is seeing I want to kill him.”
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson told Dundee Sheriff Court: “He added that he had intended to kill the new partner and do them in.
“He said he had seen them together previously and if he saw them again he would kill him. He was volatile and agitated and frequently raising his voice.”
Haldane, 40, a prisoner at HMP Perth, pleaded guilty on indictment to charges of carrying an offensive weapon and behaving in a threatening or abusive manner likely to cause fear and alarm.
Defence solicitor Nick Whelan said: “Reports will be required as he’s currently on a community payback order.”
Sheriff Alistair Carmichael deferred sentence until next month for social work background reports. He said: “You will be remanded in custody meantime.”
