A major street in Monifieth has been left gridlocked by roadworks.
Local businesses and commuters have expressed their frustration with the works, which are taking place at the junction of Ferry Road and Grange Road.
Temporary traffic lights have been set up at the junction and are expected to remain for at least four weeks.
Almost 40 cars could be seen tailing back towards Broughty Ferry, while similar delays were occurring in the opposite direction.
One local resident, who owns Jackson Newsagents on Ferry Road, expressed his outrage at the delays.
“It has been very, very bad for business,” he said.
“Everyone is stuck in traffic and can’t come in and use the shop. We have had fewer customers than usual and these works are going on for four weeks.
“It is a huge problem, all day after seven in the morning. Luckily my deliveries come in at 6am when it is not so bad, but after that it is non-stop delays.”
These views were echoed by a commuter who regularly uses Ferry Road, but who has now decided to take a different route to try to avoid the congestion.
He said: “The queues in the morning and coming home after work are massive. It’s taking me an extra 15 minutes to crawl through the lights in the morning and it always seems to be worse on the way back.
“I have started trying to cut through the back streets to save time but that just gets me more frustrated. I know the work is probably necessary, but the sooner they can get it finished the better.”
A statement on the Angus Council website reads: “Motorists are advised that work to refurbish the traffic lights at the junction of Grange Road and Ferry Road in Monifieth will start on Monday 16 September.
“Temporary traffic lights will be in operation while the improvements to the lights, pavements, and road are done.
“The work, which is being done by Tayside Contracts and Siemens on behalf of Angus Council, is expected to take 4-6 weeks, depending on the weather conditions.”
