A young Angus piper is set to add the stars at the Mobo Awards in Glasgow to the roll call of A-listers he’s piped for.
Craig Weir, 20, who leads Carnoustie Celtic rock band Gleadhraich, will give the stars and VIP guests a traditional Scots welcome by piping them into the pre-party reception at The Hydro on October 19.
Jahmene Douglas, So Solid Crew and Tinie Tempah are already confirmed to perform at this year’s awards ceremony.
Craig is no stranger to VIP performances, having performed a piece he wrote for the visit of the Dalai Lama to Dundee last year to the man himself.
He also piped for the Queen with the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland and more recently joined Pete Doherty’s Babyshambles on stage at Glasgow Barrowlands.
Craig said: “I’m very excited to be involved in the Mobos this year. It’s going to allow me to do what Gleadhraich is about making our national instrument more accessible to the younger generation.
“It’s great to have Scotland hosting such a huge event again and bringing so many successful musicians together at The Hydro.
“I’m particularly hoping Rita Ora and Jay Z are able to make the trip to Glasgow as I think they’d be brilliant to meet. Either way it’s going to be a crazy night for me playing in front of all of these international superstars.
“On top of Gleadhraich’s headline gig at Dundee Rep Theatre on October 11, it is sure to be one of the most exciting months yet.”
