Efforts to transform Perth into a shopping destination have been welcomed.
Following on from the success of Free After Two parking over the festive period, the initiative will be repeated again this year.
Perth and Kinross Council is also launching a pilot project at the South Inch car park, where drivers will pay on foot.
These are both part of a bid to encourage people to stay in the city longer and to boost the retail sector in Perth.
Councillor Mac Roberts welcomed the proposals, saying he was “delighted” that free parking would return over Christmas.
He said: “It did send out the message that this council does do what it can to support local retail businesses and I think they appreciate the effort we make.
“It sends out the message that Perth is open for business and we do welcome people.”
Both plans will cost at least £160,000 the free parking results in £60,000 of lost revenue, while £100,000 will be needed to set the infrastructure in place for the South Inch pilot, which will be launched next year.
