One of the driving forces behind the Broughty Ferry Lifeboat 2000 Appeal that raised £1.5 million has died.
As honorary secretary and later operations manager of the lifeboat station, Calum Begg’s main achievement was the appeal that raised the money to purchase the current lifeboat, Elizabeth of Glamis.
Born in Fife, Mr Begg was educated at Lenzie Academy before joining the British and Burmese Steam Navigation Company.
He went on to join Sea-Land Containerships as marine manager based in Liverpool. Then, after several career moves, he joined Felixstowe Dock and Railway Company.
In 1992, he joined Forth Ports at the Port of Tilbury before coming to Dundee, where he was port manager until he retired in April 2004.
