ByMichael Alexander
An 18-year-old man has suffered a serious leg injury after falling 25 feet from the wall of St Andrews Castle on to the rocks below.
The teenager was transferred by RAF Search and Rescue helicopter to Ninewells Hospital early on Saturday morning.
St Andrews Coastguard were alerted at 2.28am.
The casualty had sustained a broken mid fibula/tibia open fracture and a rotated ankle, which had turned a complete 180 degrees.
Due to the casualty’s location on rocks above the Castle Sands, carrying him out was not an option so the Rescue 137 helicopter was tasked from Lossiemouth along with both lifeboats from Broughty Ferry.
The casualty was airlifted to Ninewells at 4.30am and all other units then returned to stations.
