Driver knocked out man’s false teeth in road rage attack

A driver faces jail after punching out a man’s false teeth following a car crash.

Thomas Fleming, 29, of Pentland Terrace, High Valleyfield, admitted at Dunfermline Sheriff Court that on August 6 at Kirkgate, he behaved in a threatening or abusive manner by repeatedly shouting, swearing and uttering threats of violence.

He also admitted assaulting Martin Hutton by repeatedly striking him on the head to his injury.

Depute fiscal Azrah Yousaf said that at around 12.50pm, Mr Hutton was driving along St Catherine’s Wynd when he saw a vehicle coming towards him at speed.

There was slight contact between the cars.

Fleming, who was driving the other vehicle, got out and approached Mr Hutton shouting, “What the f*** are you doing? My girlfriend’s pregnant.”

Mr Hutton, 47, who had his window down, said there was enough space for the two vehicles to pass.

He was then “punched at least twice on the head by the accused”, said Ms Yousaf.

“There was blood splattered on to the car window. His teeth, which are not his own, were knocked out. The accused continued to shout and swear.

“Mr Hutton suffered a bleeding lip but declined medical attention.”

Fleming told police: “I just lost my temper and hit him. He grabbed my head and popped me into his car and I smashed him again. I didn’t realise he was too old.”

Sheriff Craig McSherry said: “I’m considering a custodial sentence in this case.”

Sentence was deferred until March 30.
