The producer of popular BBC drama Silent Witness, which is currently shooting an episode in Dundee, has praised the city as a filming location.

The crew of the forensic crime thriller are spending 10 days in and around Dundee, with the Tay Road Bridge being used as a location.

Producer Sharon Bloom said: “It’s a really good place to shoot. We needed somewhere that had a city feel and also a wilderness, remote feel and Dundee has given us both.

“People have been very friendly and very helpful so we have managed to get everything we want. We are up on the roof today, which has been pretty windy, but I think we have got what we need and we are also out on the bridge.

“We are shooting for half a day on Wednesday before we leave. We’re not calling it Dundee in the episode, we will call it a fictional city in a fictional country area.”

The Dundee-filmed episode features Dr Nikki Alexander, played by Emilia Fox, but Sharon was remaining tight-lipped about the plot.

She said: “I can’t tell you too much as it would give too much away. But Nikki Alexander has been called up by a policeman to help with the case.”

As well as some Dundee streets, locations will include a farm and woodland areas north of the city. Filming has also taken place in Glen Clova.

Members of the public will be able to spot the filming locations by looking out for pink arrow markers around Dundee. The show is also using local people, including David Mackaskill, as extras.

David said: “The Silent Witness set was great the biggest set I’ve ever been on. I had my own room on the set in a big trailer.

“Myself and my brother were playing members of a stalking party. We both do a lot of activities like grouse beating and stalking so they asked us to turn up to the set with our stuff on.

“We shot one scene on the first day and then about three scenes the next. We’ve got to go down to London later this month to finish them off,” added David.
