Kevin Bridges is the toast of Dundee this week after selling out the Caird Hall a record five nights in a row.
The 28-year-old will play the final night of his unprecedented run at the historic venue tonight.
Although a host of famous names have taken to the Caird Hall stage in its near century of existence, none have managed to sell it out five nights in a row.
Caird Hall manager Susan Gillan said: “Demand has been incredible. He sold out five nights and could easily have sold out five more.
“Billy Connolly sold out four shows, but that was just over two days, doing two shows a day.”
The Caird Hall has a capacity of more than 2,000, meaning more than 10,000 people will have watched him perform in Dundee over the five days.
To mark the historic achievement, the Clydebank comic was presented with a bottle of whisky and two glasses by Dundee Lord Provost Bob Duncan despite him reportedly giving up alcohol last year.
The audience was treated to an hour-long set which included jokes about such Dundee institutions as Fat Sam’s Nightclub.
His A Whole Different Story tour will also see him play an astonishing 15 nights at the SSE Hydro in Glasgow.
He will also play nine nights in Aberdeen.
In total, he will perform to around 450,000 fans on his marathon 99-date tour, with more than £12 million worth of tickets sold.
His record-breaking tour has already taken in stops in Perth and Fife.
He played the Alhambra Theatre in Dunfermline for four nights, selling 4,800 tickets over the course of his run.
Bridges’ popularity means he is the biggest-selling act to play at the venue since it opened in 2008.
The TV funnyman, who has appeared on shows such as Would I Lie to You? and Have I Got News For You, started out in comedy as a teenager.
One of his first bookings was at Whispers in Perth where, as a 16-year-old, he was paid just £20 for the gig to pay for his father’s petrol.Bigger than The Beatles? The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Frank Sinatra, David Bowie and Dame Nellie Melba stars have been gracing the stage of the Caird Hall for decades.
The venue opened a century ago and its halls have welcomed all kinds of acts.
Kevin Bridges is just the latest in a long line of comedians, including Billy Connolly and Frankie Boyle, to have played the Caird Hall.
However, none of them have ever sold out the venue five nights in a row.
Scans of the venue’s autograph book can be viewed online and it includes the signatures of such luminaries as Paul McCartney, Duke Ellington and the Queen Mum.
