More than 700 families were given a magical Christmas thanks to the generosity of Fifers.
Children living in poverty had gifts to open, food to eat and beds to sleep in after the Kirkcaldy-based Cottage Family Centre’s biggest ever festive appeal.
This was the sixth year the centre in Cawdor Crescent had organised its drive to ensure vulnerable youngsters and their families were given a Christmas to remember.
The charity, which supports families across the Kirkcaldy area, said kind-hearted locals had thrown their weight behind the cause to ensure no child was left with nothing.
The centre was inundated with gifts including toys, food and money, and manager Pauline Buchan said it had been an overwhelming few weeks.
“We have had countless reminders of why we do this and the difference this support really does make and want to thank everyone who has made this possible,” she said.
“It’s not just about making sure families have the practical support they need over the Christmas period.
“It’s about letting them know someone actually cares and wants the best for them.
“It’s about making positive memories and giving them hope for the future.”
Thanking every individual, business and organisation who had supported the appeal, Pauline added: “We can confirm that because of your support, we can ensure every one of the 700+ children and their families that have been referred will not only have the Christmas they deserve, but beds to sleep in, utilities to keep them warm, cookers to cook a meal on and food in their bellies.
“No child should have to go without the basics at Christmas or any other time and we have proved that by working together, in this area at least they won’t have to.
“On behalf of all our children and families, thank you all so much.”
Homeless people also benefited from the appeal, with all food left over after distribution to families given to the accommodation unit in Valley Gardens, Kirkcaldy.
