A Forfar church group is hoping to win The Courier’s minibus competition to help it put the heart back into the community.
Lowson Memorial Parish Church Community Action Group runs a range of activities aimed at people of all ages.
It runs a parent and toddler group, a silver surfers computer session, country dancing, social groups and keep fit classes in the church hall on Jamieson Street.
However, transport is a problem, which is why winning our 17-seater minibus would be of such benefit.
Diann Baxter from the group said: “We have over 200 youngsters from toddlers to teens and over 100 pensioners as well as all of the young mums and dads attending different activities.
“We try to organise trips to the cinema, theatre, pensioner’s shopping trips, children’s outings to parks and play barns with away days too and also have to coordinate transport to bring people to and from each event.
“The minibus would be a huge asset as transport is a major issue for our group. For full information and to register to take part in our competition visit www.thecourier.co.uk/minibus“With so many people from the very young, but also many who are elderly or disabled, requiring lifts, transport is vital for our community action group.”
The church group has a focus on bringing the community together and operates with a motto of “touching the town”.
It also runs lunch clubs, youth clubs and a Saturday hill walking group.
“On top of this, we also hold our own fun days, film nights and firework nights, bringing all ages together,” Diann added.
“The action group continually looks for opportunities to resource our community we are about to start a seated exercise class and a craft circle.
“We have put out a plea across our local community for people to buy Couriers and collect tokens.
“Our members have even got their neighbours involved so we can collect as many tokens as possible.”
