More than 150 excited children from across Tayside took part in the Fairy Box Enchanted Garden Party at the Invercarse Hotel in Dundee at the weekend.
On arrival at the hotel the youngsters were met by Scottish actor James Mackenzie, star of the hit CBBC series Raven, and a whole host of costumed characters like Penelope Pitstop and Cruella de Vil.
Around 60 volunteers were also on hand to make sure the party delivered on its promise of treats, magic and mayhem.
The young party-goers many of whom regularly attend Ninewells Hospital for treatment had been nominated by friends, family and nursing staff to receive tickets to attend the special gathering.
Charity trustee Rosie Butler said: “Illness and time spent in hospital can mean that for many sick children the simple childhood pleasure of going to a party is very rare.
“Long-term health difficulties can also bring significant isolation, intense emotional and financial worries, which make family life extra difficult at an already worrying time.
“This means that special treats and trips to bring some extra cheer can become few and far between with the additional costs that come with attending hospital, or because they are more difficult to arrange alongside prolonged medical treatment regimes,” Rosie added.
Generous local businesses and other children’s charities helped to support the event.
Fairy Box, a national charity based in Dundee, helps sick children and their families to cope better with the upset and trauma of medical treatment in hospital. It has become an established presence on children’s wards in Scotland since 2006.
Youngsters receive complimentary toys or gifts through the charity. The gift is available to them on the ward at any time of the day or night and is theirs to keep and take home with them.
