A police officer faces being banned from driving after admitting smashing into a woman’s car in an accident near the A90 while he was on duty.
Brenda Low was injured in the collision, which happened on May 8 last year, on the access road A929 to the A90 Forfar to Dundee road.
At Dundee Sheriff Court, PC Michael Fullerton, 49, who is based in Angus, admitted driving carelessly there and on the A94 Glamis road.
He carried out an overtaking manoeuvre when not safe to do so, causing his car to collide with Brenda Low’s, whereby both vehicles were damaged and Ms Low was injured.
Defending, solicitor Ross Donnelly asked for the trial date that had been set to be converted to a special reasons proof.
Fullerton, whose address was given as c/o Tayside Police, West High Street, Forfar, had previously denied the charge.
However, he admitted an amended charge which saw an allegation of him driving at excessive speed deleted from the charge.
Mr Donnelly said: “I would ask that the trial date be converted to a special reasons proof at which special reasons will be led on his behalf.
“There is an agreed narrative in this case and that will be provided to the sheriff dealing with the case on that date.”
Depute fiscal Eilidh Robertson confirmed there had been “extensive discussions” between the Crown and defence in the case.
Sheriff David Hall continued the case to a special reasons proof later this month, where Fullerton could face a lengthy period of disqualification and a sizeable fine.
