A search for a passenger who went missing from a ferry in the middle of the English Channel has been called off.
Dover coastguard was called out just before 1am on Monday following reports that a man had gone overboard from a ferry travelling from Calais to Dover, the Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) said.
An RNLI lifeboat rushed to search for the man, along with a Royal Navy warship that was in the area at the time.
A search and rescue helicopter from RAF Wattisham was also scrambled to help.
The MCA said the search was called off just before 6am today after rescuers had concluded an exhaustive search of the area.
