Emergency services were scrambled to Kirkcaldy after two females were seen walking on the rail tracks near the train station.
Police and ambulance were also spotted in the woods behind Dunvegan Avenue at around 6.30pm but it is yet unclear whether this was related to the rail tracks incident.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “BTP officers attended Kirkcaldy Railway Station following a report of two females walking on the tracks.
“BTP officers attended the scene alongside officers from Police
Scotland and both females were detained and taken to a local
hospital.
“At this time enquires are continuing as to why the females were on the tracks.”
A Police Scotland spokesman added: “We can confirm there is an ongoing incident.
“Due to operational reasons we are unable to give out further information.”
Eyewitnesses said they had seen uniformed police getting off a train at Kirkcaldy.
One woman said: “There appears to be something kicking off at Kirkcaldy railway station.
“Police van with sirens blaring pulled up to join another police van and car.
“Train has been stopped just outside the station.”
A Dunvegan Avenue resident said she had also seen police and that the area was normally quiet.
