Falkirk may have shipped five goals in the League Cup in midweek, but Raith Rovers boss Grant Murray wouldn’t be surprised to see just one goal separate the sides when they meet at Stark’s Park on Saturday.
The Bairns will still be smarting from their 5-0 loss at home to Aberdeen on Wednesday night and manager Gary Holt has already demanded a reaction from his players when they make the trip to Kirkcaldy this weekend.
The two teams already know each other quite well, having met three weeks ago in the Ramsdens Cup quarter-finals, and although Rovers edged that game 1-0, Murray is expecting another closely-fought encounter this weekend.
He said: “I think with the way the league is at the moment, it’s very close and you just need to look at the table to see there’s not a lot in it.
“You’ve got to be ready for every game that comes along and we’ve turned our attention to Falkirk.
“We’ve got the Ramsdens Cup semi-final against Annan in a couple of weeks, which is a great game to look forward to, but we’ve got some important games coming up before then.”
Rovers, who are second in the Championship, one point clear of Falkirk, will be on a high after their 4-2 victory over Alloa last weekend.
Murray was delighted with the clinical way his side despatched the Wasps and will be looking for more of the same.
“You’ve got to take your chances when they come along and we certainly did that,” he said.
“When you are at home, the onus is on you quite a bit and you’ve got to adapt to both sides of the game to win games of football.”
He continued: “But scoring four goals is fantastic and scoring four goals against Alloa, who had a very good defensive record away from home, was great.
“Away from home, they hadn’t lost many goals, possibly one or two, and we knew it was going to be difficult to break them down, but to score four goals in the way we did was brilliant.”
