Major traffic changes could be on the road ahead for Lochee High Street.
As part of the council’s regeneration of the area, a reversal of the one-way system along part of the High Street is being proposed.
If approved by the city development committee on Monday, traffic will flow northbound from Burnside Street away from the city centre towards the Coupar Angus Road.
Currently, a one-way system is in place in the opposite direction.
A signalled junction is also proposed at the junction of the Coupar Angus Road and the High Street.
The change is designed to accommodate Bank Street, a new road which will connect the High Street with the Lochee bypass.
The city council’s head of planning Gregor Hamilton said construction of the one-way Bank Street will form the most important part of the Lochee regeneration.
“The long-term plan was always to build a new street to connect the Lochee bypass with the High Street,” said Mr Hamilton.
“The new street follows the position of the historic street that was known as Bank Street.
“With the demolition of the Highgate Centre now complete, the construction of a new Bank Street can begin.”
It is also proposed to build a new community park on the corner of Bank Street and the High Street, with new car parks, housing and shops expected to be built along the new road.
If all goes to plan, the work should begin in the summer and be completed by the end of this year.
