Jilted boyfriend fined for unwanted Facebook messages

A jilted boyfriend was given a non-harassment order for six months after admitting sending his ex unwanted messages on Facebook.

Appearing at Perth Sheriff Court, Andrew Dean, 36, of School Wynd, Errol, admitted the offences.

He also admitted attending at the woman’s home address and threatening to attend places where she was socialising, all between February 1 and July 4 last year.

Depute fiscal Tina Dickie said Dean had been in a relationship with the woman for two years prior to her “ending it.”

“The couple agreed to be friends on Facebook, at the request of the accused,” she said.

“In February 2015, the accused began commenting on her posts and sending her private messages demanding to know where she was and who she was with.”

The court heard that Dean continued sending messages to her via Facebook despite the complainer asking him to refrain from doing so. One of these said he was “paranoid” about the woman “seeing someone”.

Ms Dickie added: “The woman was so concerned she blocked the accused on Facebook, but he then sent a text message to her leading to police being called.”

Defending, solicitor Cliff Culley said his client had not intended to be “threatening”.

“He just wanted to see her,” he said.

Dean was also fined £400.
