Pipers needed to help Kirkcaldy dookers pluck up the courage

The organiser of a Kirkcaldy New Year institution is appealing to musicians to “pipe up” and help out at Wednesday’s event.

Ann Belton, the organiser of the Loony Dook, is making a last-minute appeal to pipers to come forward and offer their services for the fundraiser.

This year’s event will take place at noon on Seafield Beach, with funds raised going to the Breakthrough Breast Cancer charity.

Any pipers interested in volunteering can contact Ann on 01592 783580.

Anyone wishing to take part can still do so and are asked to assemble at Seafield beach at noon.

Kinghorn RNLI has organised a similar event to raise funds for the local lifeboat.

Organiser Mark Gowans, who is also the lifeboat tractor driver, said: “It’s always great to see so many of our supporters coming along to support the event.”

The Kinghorn dook takes place at the lifeboat station at 11am.

Dookers will also be taking to the Forth in West Fife, again in the name of charity.

The event at Limekilns is being staged to raise funds for Aberlour, which provides additional support for Scottish children and their families.

Taking place on the local beach at noon, organiser Alex Hill hopes to welcome many new faces to the shore.
