Hidden risks of Angus coast highlighted with 50th lifeboat launch

The hidden risks of enjoying the “beautiful” Angus coastline have been underlined.
The crew of Arbroath’s RNLI lifeboat station reached a milestone 50th launch this year on Tuesday eclipsing the number of launches last year.
As well as marking a busy year for the volunteers, operations manager Alex Smith said it is now more important than ever to observe basic safety when going out in the water.
He said: “It’s really an indication of how busy our waters are becoming. Although we’ve seen a decline in commercial operations, the number of people taking to the water for leisure purposes is growing all the time.”
Tuesday’s launch saw the inshore lifeboat Robert Fergusson assist a boat with two people on board which had broken down off Arbroath harbour.
Mr Smith added: “We have a beautiful coastline in this area and it’s fantastic that so many people are attracted to it.
“However, it can be dangerous so we encourage anyone who is taking to the water or spending time along the shoreline to make sure they understand sea safety and take necessary precautions.”
