Dundee University Students’ Association has denied claims it excluded a pro-life group from this year’s Freshers Fayre which took place on Saturday.
Members of the Dundee branch of the Society for the Protection of the Unborn Child say they have attended the event for at least five years but were not invited this year.
Chairwoman Clare McGraw said: “Normally they write to us asking if we want a stall again but this year they didn’t. We don’t have anything graphic just information about abortion and some foetal models.
“The debate is obviously an emotional one but it is important and I think it needs to be out in the open. People feel strongly on both sides but to quash one side of the debate at an academic institution seems wrong.”
The group also uses its stall to promote its post-abortion counselling service.
Dundee University Students’ Association, which organises the event, denied the group was deliberately excluded.
DUSA president Iain MacKinnon said: “We have been overwhelmed by organisations looking to exhibit at this year’s Freshers Fayre and have had to turn several requests down.
“We encourage students to engage in freedom of thought and with causes they feel passionately about.
“As a result, we have a very healthy body of more than 100 societies representing a wide spectrum of political, religious and philosophical beliefs, including the Life Society.”
