Newburgh Highland Games hoping for successful return
ByThe Courier Reporter
Newburgh Highland Games will take place at Robbie’s Park on Saturday for the first time since 2010.
Previous games were cancelled at short notice due to bad weather. Last year there were too few helpers to be able to put on a games event.
This year, however, there is renewed local interest and enthusiasm to keep the tradition going and, weather permitting, it will take place tomorrow.
The traditional date for the Newburgh Games is the third Saturday in June, which dates back to an ancient royal charter for a local market and celebration on that day.
Games handicapper Shane Fenton said there is a good number of entries for both the running and cycling events.
The games stages the Scottish 4,800 metres grass track championship for cyclists.
The event is scheduled to begin at 12.30pm. There is parking nearby and bus links from Perth, Cupar and Glenrothes.
