The new owners of a Dundee pub that became infamous after football fans rioted inside have promised to create a new family-friendly environment.

The Ambassador on Clepington Road had become a hotbed for anti-social behaviour including one incident in July where football fans tore a sink off the wall and fought inside the bar.

Another episode took place in the early afternoon when Dundee United welcomed Aberdeen to a match at Tannadice in December 2014.

Football hooligans forced the bar to close after trouble flared, with dozens of fans involved in fighting.

But Kate Fraser, the new director of the pub, said that they want a “new beginning” for The Ambassador, formerly known as The Centenary Bar, and say that they intend to make it a family-friendly environment.

She said: “It is my first pub business I have owned shops in the past.

“We decided to take over the pub to hold functions like weddings I have catered for them previously and have experience in that.

“The place has had issues in the past with away football fans causing bother.

“This is going to be a much more family-friendly place kids are welcome.”

She added: “Football supporters are still welcome but we are going to be very careful about which buses we allow to come.

“We don’t mind folk that are coming to watch the game with family. We think that we can stop the trouble by organising things properly.”
