A concerted effort to cut bed blocking rates in Fife is reaping rewards.
The number of delayed discharges in the region’s hospitals has fallen from more than 140 to 83 in just a few weeks thanks to extra funding and the hard work of health and council staff.
In a bid to prevent numbers from creeping up again over Christmas, workers have been asked to volunteer for extra shifts to ensure care home or community places are found for those who need them.
It is hoped the move will allow people to leave hospital when medically fit while also preventing unnecessary admissions.
Health board member Andrew Rodger said: “To go from 142 down to 83 was a mammoth task in just a few weeks.”
