A property tycoon led police on a 120 miles per hour chase before crashing through a fence and wall, a court has heard.
Mark Harris, 45, was pursued by a police patrol car on the dual carriageway and officers said they failed to catch up with him despite driving at nearly double the speed limit.
Perth Sheriff Court was shown DVD footage taken from the police car which showed Harris’s car disappearing briefly from view on the A90 in dark and wet conditions.
Inspector Neil McLeod, 50, Police Scotland’s head of road police training, told the trial he would have expected police to catch up quickly with Harris if he had been driving at a “normal” speed.
Harris, Mylnefield House, Invergowrie, denies driving dangerously at over 100mph in wet road conditions on the A90 between Invergowrie and Longforgan.
He denies driving at 60mph in Longforgan and showing total disregard for the safety of other road users.
The dangerous driving charge also alleges he lost control of the car and collided with a fence and wall at 89 Main Street, Longforgan.
He also denies failing to provide a blood specimen to police and failing to stop for a uniformed police officer during the incident on 23 December 2013.
The trial against the property developer continues.
