Perth Bike Station puts the cycling into recycling
BySandra Gray
Donations of old and unwanted bikes are being sought by Perth Bike Station.
Mechanics refurbish the bikes and sell them at an affordable price to prevent further waste going to landfill. Any bicycles that cannot be fixed are taken apart by local volunteers, with any reusable parts kept for repairs.
Bikes can be handed in at any recycling centre in Perth and Kinross, or taken directly to the Perth Bike Station premises at Mid Friarton.
Those visiting the charity’s base can also receive advice about cycling safely on roads and where to find suitable cycling routes in the area.
The group also hosts regular sales of adults’ and children’s bikes, parts and accessories on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
For those who already have a bike but need advice on how to look after it, tutorials take place on Wednesday evenings from 4pm and on Saturday afternoons. There are also spots available for hire in the workshop for £4, where amateur mechanics can have access to all the tools they need, as well as the help of qualified experts.
