Bill Christie, founding partner of surveyors WJR Christie

Bill Christie, founding partner of Dundee surveying practice WJR Christie and Partners, has died aged 92.
Born on Glamis Street, Dundee, in 1922, he went to Dens Road Primary and Morgan Academy.
His surveyor training was interrupted by the Second World War when he joined the Fleet Air Arm, and he trained in Pensacola in the USA in 1942 before serving on HMS Illustrious in the Pacific.
He returned home in 1945 a Flight Lieutenant, and married Ella that year.
In 1952 Mr Christie founded WJR Christie and Partners with his wife as company secretary, his first member of staff.
The company expanded and in 1959 Mr Christie was appointed as the surveyor for Ninewells Hospital.
Other notable contracts for the company included William Low and DC Thomson & Co Ltd.
Mr Christie retired in 1987.
As a member of Round Table, Former Tablers and then Rotary he took pleasure from his involvement in community projects and the fellowship of the clubs.
He was chairman of the board of trustees of Carolina House and an elder at McCheyne Church.
Mr Christie is survived by his children Ann, Douglas and Maureen and six grandchildren.
