Dundee United fans will have the chance to hail their heroes in a victory parade on Monday IF they win Sunday’s Scottish League Cup final against Celtic.
The Tangerines go into the match as underdogs, but the city council has made plans in the hope that they can beat the odds and bring the trophy back to Dundee.
If they do, there will be a parade down Reform Street before a celebration in the City Square.
Lord Provost Bob Duncan said: “I would like to take this opportunity to wish Dundee United every success in the Scottish League Cup final on Sunday.
“We are extremely proud of the team’s efforts in reaching this stage and we are all hoping that they can bring the cup back to Dundee.
“The club has already brought great honour to the city and I would like to send my best wishes to the team ahead of the final.”
Dundee United director Derek Robertson said: “We’d all like to stress that these are contingency arrangements only and that we’re taking nothing for granted nor making any assumptions about the result.
“Obviously, however, we’re all hoping that the cup will come back to Dundee and, in view of the amount of planning and external bodies involved, it is necessary to have these contingency plans in place well ahead of the time.”
If Jackie McNamara’s men can do the business on the pitch, Monday’s event will start with the team bus leaving Tannadice at 5pm before arriving at City Square for 5.30pm.
There would then be an hour for celebrations, culminating in the traditional trophy display on the City Chambers balcony.
