A Dundee woman who was given a parking fine after her car was parked “nine inches” over a “huge” bus bay has hit out at Dundee City Council.
Daisy Falconer, 23, left her Ford Ka sitting outside her home on the city’s busy Strathmartine Road last week.
The 23-year-old concedes that while her front wheels were parked on the back of a bay which runs outside her home, she was shocked to find she had been ticketed when she went to leave for work in the morning.
Daisy explained: “My front two wheels were parked something like nine inches over the back of a huge bus bay.
“I park outside my house all the time and sometimes my front wheels are accidentally on the back of the bay, but I’ve never had a ticket in my life.
“The council have said in the past that they give out tickets if drivers breach safety restrictions.
“But I’m not causing any security issues by parking there.
“The council are just trying to get their money back.
“The bus bay itself was just put there one day. We weren’t even consulted.
“My front two wheels were on the line and they shouldn’t have been, but this is excessive.
“It’s ridiculous.”
Daisy’s fine comes just days after The Courier revealed the city’s top parking fine hot spots.
The fed up motorist’s furious step dad, Andy Campbell, dismissed the penalty notice and insisted he believed the warden who applied the fine had been heavy-handed.
He said: “I think this is just about making money for the council.
“There are no safety concerns at all, so it’s a bit of a liberty.
“People who park in an indecent manner deserve to be ticketed, but this isn’t like that.
“I’ve appealed the decision, but I won’t be holding my breath.
“It’s an easy hit for them and I guess it’s another £30 towards the massive savings the council has to make.
“I had hoped the warden would have some Christmas spirit, but he has been over vigorous here.”
A spokesperson for Dundee City Council said: “Parking restrictions are in place for the safety and protection of all road users including pedestrians.
“Any breaches of these restrictions will result in a Penalty Charge Notice, which is fixed at £30 if paid within 14 days and £60 if paid between 14 and 28 days.”
