Methven man accused of causing OAP’s death with careless driving

A van driver has been accused of causing the death of a pensioner by driving with a bald tyre and losing control of his vehicle.

William Hutton, 27, is alleged to have killed Rosemary Philip, 81, by driving carelessly and veering across the road into the path of an oncoming vehicle.

Mrs Philip, from Tiree Place, Perth, was a passenger in a Skoda Fabia and died in hospital two days after the collision with Hutton’s Vauxhall Astra van.

Hutton, Craigallachy, Culdeezland Road, Methven, faces a charge of causing death by careless driving on the A85 Crianlarich to Perth road on August 2 2014.

The charge alleges the tread of his front offside tyre was below the legal minimum and he lost control and crossed the carriageway into the opposite lane where the collision took place.

Mrs Philip was injured and died in Ninewells Hospital in Dundee two days after the incident near the unclassified road to Loanleven Farm.

Hutton asked for the case to be continued without plea at Perth Sheriff Court and it was delayed until later this month by Sheriff Fiona Tait.
